A Call To Action Projects
Since its creation, The Columbus Foundation and its donors have granted more than $800 million to the central Ohio community. These grants have helped area nonprofits implement programs and initiatives that support individuals and families, and strengthen our community.
The Columbus Foundation is dedicated to providing you with critical information concerning these supported projects in this section. Each quarter a new list of projects will be highlighted below.
A Home Away from Home
Located in southeast Ohio, Camp Oty-Okwa has been operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio for 66 years. The area offers excellent opportunities for campers to explore woodlands, rock formations, and caves. During a typical 10-week summer, more than 850 low-income youth, ages 6-17, gain friends and learn new skills while hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and canoeing. A $15,600 Columbus Foundation grant assists with summer camp programming and scholarships. |

A Community Battle
Currently, 14,000 homes in Franklin County at some stage of foreclosure. Columbus Housing Partnership has witnessed a dramatic increase in calls from people seeking help in the past three years, doubling the number of homeowners it counsels annually. A $50,000 grant from The Columbus Foundation provides support for homeowners in crisis through community outreach, homebuyer education, and foreclosure prevention services. |

Bringing History to Life
The Ohio Statehouse has been a trademark of downtown Columbus for more than 200 years. In early 2009, The Capitol Square Foundation will open an interactive museum featuring 15,000 square feet of exhibits to educate visitors about the branches of government, Statehouse history, significant Ohioans, and the role state government plays. A $50,000 grant from The Columbus Foundation was awarded to enhance the content and impact of the Statehouse educational program. |
